As we confront the current economic realities, one fact remains unchanged. People who prepare for the future while adapting to the present represent the workforce Idaho employers want and need. Layoffs make the headline, but behind the scenes, many high paying technical jobs continue to be in demand.
An aging U.S. population assures jobs in the health care field, and while U.S. automakers struggle, buyers delaying the purchase of a new car rely more on skilled automotive technicians to assure the current car continues to function safely. New housing construction may be on hold, but current homeowners still rely on the trades to maintain the value of their current homes and perform essential repairs. These are just a few examples.
In addition, a transition is underway as traditional jobs give way to “green” jobs predicted to form the basis for the new economy. Idaho’s need for skilled workers remains important. With your support, the Idaho Professional-Technical Education Foundation will continue its role of providing student scholarships to keep Idaho’s future bright and help offset rising tuition costs.
As Foundation supporting members, we welcome your support and participation at the Legislative Luncheon scheduled for January 20, 2009. This scholarship fund raising event provides representatives from secondary and postsecondary student leadership organizations the opportunity to express their thanks and share their successes with legislators, the business community, and professional- technical educators. Attendees have the opportunity to hear why the future of Idaho can be viewed with much optimism.
